Researching the game industry in the Netherlands
Opdracht
I got the opportunity to interview many interesting
entrepreneurs within the game sector. After having spoken to many of these key players and having
referenced the existing literature, I was able to conclude that there was a significant change taking
place within the industry. An important trend I found was that games are increasingly being purchased from digital platforms on the internet. Syntens and I wanted to help the creators of these applications.
Aanpak
After several conversations that I had with the entrepreneurs, I found out that there were few marketing experts specialised in digital
platforms. Consequently, we developed of an accessible way to bring the concerned parties together in order to further develop this area of expertise. This meeting would focus on dialogue as opposed to monologues by experts. We thought up the term ‘unconference’ to refer to these meetings. An unconference is a meeting without a fixed programme whereby the emphasis is on sharing information.
Resultaat
The first meeting attracted 30 participants and the second attracted 50 participants, including guests from Sweden, Germany and the United Kingdom. The concept is still growing as the third meeting was recently sponsored by Samsung and was attended by known names in the industry including
Microsoft, Exmachina, Roomloaded, Scoreloop and Distimo.
